She is the listener,
the commiserater,
the cheerleader,
the lighter of the room.
The mother, the teacher, the sister, the friend.
Juxtaposed difficulty;
A gifted and gifting caretaker.
Always takes care with her words,
with your heart.
She shines in dark places,
hugs in sad places,
knocks on the door with a broom because “she had to do something” to help
and there isn’t a way to sweep away tears.
In a large YMCA pool,
she taught me to swim.
More importantly,
She taught me to float
in the deep end,
face the fear and dive into
the pool of life.
